HIJOS DEL AGOBIO. 6C+ 150m
Contrafuerte de la PUNTA ZANZI. CAJÓN DEL MAIPO
The rock is a solid hard sandstone.it is situated near Volcan San José and the landcaped is totally arid that creates an amazing contrast of colours that change during the day.The solid muralla of red sandstone above the pillars of Punta Zanzi is where Hijos goes It was opened hand drilling ground-up.10 bolts and 2 pitons in the route. The wall is very sustained and quite impressing.First pitch starts with a very thin crack and some small reglettes to reach a wider crack above,not easy protection. Second pitch starts with pretty hard moves on face to reach a diagonal crack on the right and follow to its finish, then a quite exposed sections apear to the left but really nice.Third pitch is a beautifull 6a chimney .4th pitch with a small diedral to a ledge.Last pitch enjoyable 6a+ jamming crack.
Gear needed: A set of micronuts,nuts and friends from 0 to 3,5.Rappel the route
Acces: From Santiago the Chile take the road to San José del Maipo and then to Baños Morales.
Approach: from the small village of Baños Morales follow the dirt road that goes to the mine or the hot springs and after three bends on the right you can see the wall in front of you on the right.Go up and once at the Hitchock crag go left to the base of the Contrafuerte.(1h) If you get a ride from one of the trucks that head to the mine you can be there in 45 minuts.
There is another route on the right called Somos Ricos.6b+
Just above El Contrafuerte de la Punta Zanzi there is Punta Zanzi itelf with more than six or seven routes.
To enjoy even more head to the hot springs.
